• Counsel to US Attorney General John Ashcroft, US Justice Department, 2001-2003.  Served as the Attorney General’s chief adviser on immigration law and border security.
• Architect of anti-terrorism programs at Justice Department after 9/11, including the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System (NSEERS), which led to the apprehension of numerous suspected terrorists.

• Chairman of the Kansas Republican Party, 2007-2009.
• As Chairman, instituted the first Presidential Preference Caucus in Kansas in over 20 years.
• As Chairman, led the Kansas Republican Party to retake the 2nd Congressional District and expand its majority in the Kansas Senate to 31 of 40 seats.
